How to prepare 10 percent barium chloride solution

Preparation and standardisation of 0.05 M Barium Chloride solution using Disodium edetate and Metalphthalein as indicator used in pharmaceutical analysis.

  • Dissolve 12.2 g of barium chloride in sufficient water to produce 1000 ml.
  • Standardize the solution in the following manner.

  • To 10.0 ml of the solution add 60 ml of water, 3 ml of strong ammonia solution and 0.5 to 1 mg of metalphthalein as an indicator.
  • Titrate with 0.05 M disodium edetate.
  • As the solution begins to decolorize, add 50 ml of ethanol (95 %) and titrate until the bluish violet color is discharged.
  • 1 ml of 0.05 M disodium edetate is equivalent to 0.012215 g of BaCl2.2H20.

To prepare 1000 mL of a 0.1 mol/L solution of AlCl3 we have to dissolve 24.1433 g of AlCl3×6H2O (96 % purity) in deionized or distilled water. After the solid is completely dissolved, dilute the solution to a final volume with deionized (distilled) water. we will need to dilute 13.72 mL of 73 % AlCl3×6H2O to a final volume with deionized (distilled) water.

  • Transfer the prepared solution to a clean, dry storage bottle and label it. Never store solutions in a volumetric flask.
  • All chemicals that you are unfamiliar with should be treated with extreme care and assumed to be highly flammable and toxic.

1. Raw material: 25 g of barium chloride, 100 ml of water.2. Stir and dissolve by heating.3. Stand still to cool down.4. Move to a 100ml volumetric flask to make up the volume.Introduction to lanthanum chloride:Barium chloride is a white crystal, easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, insoluble in ethanol and ether, easy to absorb moisture, and needs to be sealed and stored. As an analytical reagent, a dehydrating agent, a bismuth salt, and used in electronics, instrumentation, metallurgy and other industries. The main purpose:Mainly used for metal heat treatment, strontium salt manufacturing, electronic instrumentation, also used as heat treatment agent in mechanical processing. Determination of sulfate and selenate, chromatographic analysis, spot analysis of platinum, water softener. Fabric dyeing.Storage and transportation conditions:Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat. The package is sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, acids and food chemicals, and should not be mixed.Risk:

Ingestion of 0.2 to 0.5 g of barium chloride can cause poisoning, and the lethal dose is 0.8-0.9 g. If you find poisoning, take magnesium sulfate or sodium sulfate, take gastric lavage, enema, vomiting and other measures. Seek medical attention quickly, sputum poisoning has obvious symptoms of hypokalemia. The LD50 is about 118 mg/kg.
