When is the Met Gala 2022? 

The 2022 Met Gala is taking place on Monday 2 May in New York. It celebrates the second volume in a two-part Costume Institute exhibition. The first, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, opened on 18 September, and was preceded by the 2021 Met Gala on 13 September.

What is the Met Gala 2022 theme?

The theme for part two is In America: An Anthology of Fashion, and the exhibition sees Andrew Bolton, head curator of the Museum of Modern Art’s Costume Institute, focus on inclusivity in fashion. “Who gets to be American?” was a question posed at Prabal Gurung’s spring/summer 2020 show, and it is being addressed at the Met Gala 2022, too.

This second exhibition, presented across 13 of the American period rooms at the Met, “provides a historical context for Lexicon, in a way”, curator Bolton told Vogue. “The stories really reflect the evolution of American style, but they also explore the work of individual tailors, dress-makers, and designers,” he says. “What’s exciting for me is that some of the names will be very familiar to students of fashion, like Charles James, Halston and Oscar de la Renta, but a lot of the other names really have been forgotten, overlooked or relegated into the footnotes of fashion history. So one of the main intentions of the exhibition is to spotlight the talents and contributions of these individuals, and many of them are women.”

Of course, the theme is reflected in the dress code, summarised on the coveted invitations as gilded glamour, white tie. Expect gowns worthy of sweeping period epics like The Age of Innocence, or a scene from The Gilded Age, as A-list guests, from the Kardashian-Jenners to the Hadid sisters, do their best to embody the grandeur of the New York of the late 19th century.

Who is hosting the Met Gala 2022?

On 17 March, Vogue announced that its 2022 hosts would include Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who are serving as the night’s official co-chairs, while designer Tom Ford, Instagram’s Adam Mosseri, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour are continuing as honorary co-chairs.

O Met Gala 2022 vai acontecer no dia 2 de maio com o tema "Gilded Glamour and White Tie": o evento organizado pelo Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, em Nova York, reúne diferentes celebridades, com nomes revelantes das artes, da música e também das redes sociais.

O tema desse ano tem uma relação direta com o do ano passado, "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion", que reuniu produções cheias de glamour no red carpet. Isso porque a segunda parte da exposição "In America: An Anthology of Fashion", lançada no ano passado, entra agora em cartaz.

A chamada Gilded Age (Era Dourada, em tradução livre do inglês) é o período na história dos Estados Unidos que corresponde ao final do século XIX, entre a década de 1870 até 1900.

Para você pensar em referências visuais, pode ficar de olho em produções como "Gilded Age" e "Bridgerton" (nessa vale destacar a ressalva de ter a Inglaterra como cenário, mas, por ser ambientada no mesmo período, pode funcionar como inspiração para alguns visuais).

Por tudo isso que já falamos, podemos esperar duas possibilidades de referências fashion na época: aquelas mais clássicas e as mais diferentonas - como esquecer o outfit todo preto de Kim Kardashian em 2021 que viralizou no red carpet?

No primeiro caso, veremos muitos vestidos longos, plumas e luvas - dois elementos que já vinham mostrando sua força em produções contemporâneas nessa temporada. Outros itens muito comuns no closet da Era Dourada eram os espartilhos, corpetes e corsets.

Também muito presente em roupas de fashionistas atuais as peças valorizam a cintura de modo único: o espartilho é fechado com amarração, enquanto o corset leva zíper ou ilhós. Já os corpetes têm alça e decote coração, também ajustados à silhueta.
