How Do You Make A Fruit Platter Look Good?

Just follow our simple tips for making your fruit tray, healthy dessert look just so good!

  • If you’re making a fruit platter for a party or special occasion then it’s good to add in some lovely decorative touches just to make it feel extra special. Try decorating the plate with fresh herbs like rosemary or basil or chives. You can also use edible flowers to decorate with too.
  • Add some fruit dips – when I make these platters for parties I add in some dips, I usually add a simple yogurt dip with honey swirled into it and a maple syrup dip for drizzling or dunking. The kids love a melted chocolate dip or chocolate mousse option to.
  • Colour themed fruit platters are a really nice option if you want that extra special touch or want to match a party theme – the easiest options for this are yellows, peaches and reds or a dark fruits version with figs, plums and berries.

What Extra Things Can I Add To A Fruit Tray?

If you want to make a fruit tray even more special then add in some delicious extras

  • Nuts – nuts work really well with fruit, you can just add them arranged in little piles, scattered across the fruit or in lines. Try walnuts, almonds or Brazil nuts. Even smoked or flavoured nuts can be included.
  • Chocolate – chocolate goes oh so well with fruit. You could dip some of the fruit in chocolate or drizzle melted chocolate over the fruit. Alternatively add little piles of chocolate or even a chocolate dip.
  • Cheese – fruit and cheese platter ideas are always a good thing! Cheese is always great with fruit. Try different types of cheese, ready sliced or crumbled, in amongst the fruit arrangements.

What Fruit Should You Not Put On A Fruit Platter?

Any fruit that browns quickly you should avoid adding to a fruit platter. Bananas don’t really last well on a fruit tray – but if you really wanted to include them you could add some dried banana chips.

When it comes to pears and apples, they’ll brown quickly too but you can toss them in fresh lemon juice which will help them to last longer.

How Long Does A Fruit Platter Last?

A fruit tray will be okay in the fridge for around 1-2 days – anything that is looking droopy just use it up in a fruit smoothie instead.

Can You Make A Fruit Platter Ahead Of Time?

The best way to tackle making a fruit platter ahead of time is to prepare the fruit and then store it in individual boxes ready to assemble quickly just before serving.

This is partly because fruit platters are large and so difficult to fit in the fridge, plus once you’ve arranged them nicely, you risk ruining your arrangement by wrapping and refrigerating.

And if you’re taking the fruit platter to a party or potluck then it’s best to transport in boxes and arrange when you arrive.

How To Serve Fruit Platters
