What day is the most common birthday

What is your birthday and do you know anyone else who celebrates a birthday on that date? Some months of the year have many more people celebrating birthdays than other months and some days of the year have more births. Our trivia question is, according to Zippia Research, what month of the year has the most birthdays in the United States?

Answer:

. Figures from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows July through October are the most popular birth months in the United States, and the most popular month for babies to be born is September. The Zippia site lists every day of the year and the most popular day for babies to be born is September ninth. Out of the top ten days for U.S. births, nine of the days are in September; July 7 sneaked into that list at number six. The most popular birth dates, in order, are September 9, September 19, September 12, September 17, September 10, July 7, September 20, September 15, September 16 and September 18. The experts attribute those dates to couples getting together at Christmas through New Years.

Zippia has a complete list of days and where they rank on zippia.com. The data is based on the years 1994 to 2014 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics and the Social Security Administration. That list shows the least popular day for births is December 25th, then January first, December 24th and July 4th. Zippia says "in a world of scheduled c-sections and inductions, doctors and delivery staff prefer to be home with their families on the big holidays than helping expand someone else’s families."

Knowing your due date means knowing a whole lot more than when you can expect your little one to arrive. It could determine anything and everything from the logistics around your labor and delivery to the time of year your child can expect to celebrate their birthday.

Curious if your kid on the way will be celebrating during the most common birthday month and therefore have plenty of classmates celebrating, as well? Or maybe they'll be born on the least common day of the year for babies to make their big entrance into the world? Now you can figure that out, thanks to a viral blog post from The Daily Viz's Matt Stiles.

Here's the scoop on the most common birthdays in the U.S.

Using real birth data from the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics and U.S. Social Security Administration, gathered by FiveThirtyEight, that covers 20 years of American births, Stiles concluded that September is the most popular month to give birth to a child in the U.S. In fact, nine of the top 10 days to give birth fall between September 9 and September 20.

So, then, the question is of course, why?

"If you back up 38 weeks, that means many couples are conceiving in December and around the holidays," explains Whitney Casares, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.P, author of The New Baby Blueprint: Caring for You and Your Little One. "It makes sense that they may be more likely to conceive during more celebratory seasons."

Another reason, Dr. Casares points out: According to a study in Obstetrics and Gynecology, couples may have more luck conceiving during the winter season due to higher-quality sperm in winter versus summer months. "They also postulated that changes in daylight length might make an ovum’s environment better-suited for a sperm," she notes. "More research is needed to understand this interesting phenomenon.

Experian landed on September 9 as the most common birthday. It's one shared by Adam Sandler and Hugh Grant, jazz singer Michael Bublé, Russian literary giant Leo Tolstoy, and Colonel Sanders, the founder of KFC. September 19 is second most common birthday, followed by September 12, September 17, September 10, and the first non-September date in the mix: July 7.

Christmas Day is the least common), while New Year's Day is the second to least common. Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July also rank low on the list. And perhaps because summer conceptions aren't as common as winter ones, April 20 is the 328th most common.

So if you happen to be expecting around the holidays, your child likely won't have all that much competition for celebration in the classroom growing up. But if you happened to conceive during the holidays, well, get ready for an avalanche of cupcakes and many performances of the "Birthday Song" come September.

Thanks for your feedback!

What are the most common birthdays?

Well, it turns out the holiday season for Americans is a prevalent time to conceive, but not the most ideal for giving birth.

So, thanks to the past two decades of real American birth data, and a popular blog post from Matt Stiles, we’ve put together a list of the 10 most common birthdays in America and highlighted reasons why they’re so common.

Here’s a list of the 10 most common birthdays.

The list of birthdays and figures mentioned below has been compiled from various sources around the web, such as The Daily Viz.

Based on two decades of research on American birthdays, averaged by month and day, these are the 10 most common birthdays.

  1. 9th September
  2. 19th September
  3. 12th September
  4. 17th September
  5. 10th September
  6. 7th September
  7. 20th September
  8. 15th September
  9. 16th September
  10. 18th September

The Most Common Birth Month

According to research from Matt Stiles, September is the most common birth month for Americans, based on real birth data from the U.S. National Health Center for Health Statistics and the U.S. Social Security Administration.

The data shows that the top ten most common birthdays in the United States fall between September 9th and September 20th.

Why Is It So Common?

Is it a coincidence? Well, not likely, as there are a few explanations that can shed light on why a large number of birthdays fall in September.

Firstly, if you rewind the clock around 38 weeks, then you’ll see that the month of conception is December, which, for many Americans, is the “holiday” season.

So, it makes sense that couples will choose to conceive during this period, as taking time off typically leads to reductions in stress levels and increased happiness.

Secondly, males tend to have higher quality sperm during the winter months compared to the warmer months of the summer, according to a study by Dr. Carares about Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Also, Dr. Carares claims that “changes in daylight length might make an ovum’s environment better suited for sperm.”

So, if you combine these theories with the fact that a lot of people would prefer to stay in bed and “snuggle” during the winter months, then it’s pretty clear why December has become the most common month to convince a child.

The Least Common Birthdays

If your birthday falls on Christmas Day, then you officially have the least common birthday.

It’s not that difficult to see why this is, as if the majority of people in America are conceiving in December, then it stands to reason that the same month would see the least amount of birthdays.

If we also apply the same logic, we used to determine the most common month of conception, then rolling back the clock approximately 38-40 weeks takes us to April/May, or springtime in America.

So, if our bodies are more geared up to reproduce during the winter months, then it’s likely that they’re also inclined to slow down and unwind during the warmer months of spring and summer.

Also, conceiving a child around this time would mean that the baby would be due in December, which is generally filled with all sorts of stressful festive events and is a hectic time for most working professionals.

Other birthdays that aren’t very common are New Years Day, Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July.

Summary

We hope you enjoyed our list of the 10 most common birthdays.

In the grand scheme of things, the day you’re born doesn’t play any part in the type of life you’ll lead, or give you an advantage in any way.

So, if you find yourself expecting a baby in either the most or least popular months of the year, then remember that as long as you’re child is healthy, that’s all that matters.
