On the day she revealed on-air that she had myelodysplastic syndrome, the website for Be the Match, a nonprofit organization that maintains a national bone marrow donation registry, saw a 1,800% increase in donors. Roberts relied on her sister, Sally-Ann, who doctors said was an excellent match, rather than the registry. Nonetheless, Roberts promoted bone marrow donation through Be the Match and encouraged viewers to sign up.

Roberts made her first appearance on Good Morning America since beginning treatment on February 20, 2013. Her emotional return and happy reunion with the Good Morning America staff was witnessed by the entire world.
