The Giants and Titans will be feeling different shades of blue come Week 1. Big Blue is heading towards some lean years, if the new regime has given any indication: After years of half measures and half-in, half-out competitiveness, the team seems poised to hit the reset button and start from scratch. This year will be a pure "evaluation" year for Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley and the rest of the roster. While the pieces exist for the Giants to be competitive in an unknown NFC East, Giants fans should brace for a long season. On the other side of the field, the Titans are coming off a season of "What Ifs?" and a winter of sadness. After securing the No.1 seed in the AFC, Tennessee was ousted in the divisional round vs. Cincinnati, thus ending another season short of reaching the Super Bowl during the Mike Vrabel Era. There may be good times ahead, though: With Malik Willis waiting in the wings and coming off a solid preseason, the clock on the Ryan Tannehill music could be fading out in the "Music City." Willis may offer a spark that Tannehill MORE: Watch Giants vs. Titans with fuboTV (free trial) It's Giants vs. Titans in a … big Week 1 matchup. Tennessee Titans schedule 2022
Copyright © 2022 Sporting News Holdings Limited. The Titans will enter the 2022 NFL season as a big question mark. They're coming off a season in which they were the No. 1 seed in the AFC but lost their only playoff game in the AFC divisional round to prematurely end a postseason run that felt full of promise. This offseason, they traded wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Eagles, but Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks was the top pick in the draft and Robert Woods was acquired in a trade. Then there's the quarterback room, where Ryan Tannehill looked less impressive after a bounce-back 2020 season and the team drafted dual-threat prospect Malik Willis. So where do the Titans stand as they await the release of their 2022 NFL schedule? They are still favored to win the AFC South, perhaps the weakest division in the conference, but are they at the level of the Bills, Chiefs, Chargers and Bengals? They'll have a chance to prove it in 2022 when they face each of those Super Bowl contenders. Here is a complete breakdown of the Titans' 2022 schedule, including dates, start times and analysis for all 17 games. Seven of the teams the Titans will face in 2022 reached the playoffs in 2021, with four of those teams advancing as far as the divisional round: Bengals, Bills, Chiefs and Packers. They'll face the Cowboys, Raiders and Bengals at home, and the Chiefs, Bills, Packers and Eagles on the road. Titans strength of scheduleThe Titans' 2022 opponents went a combined 136-153, a .471 winning percentage that is tied for 24th-strongest in the NFL. Toughest tests: That slate of road games is a gantlet. The Chiefs, Bills, Packers, Chargers and Eagles away will all be major challenges. Those games will test Tennessee's ability to be more than just the prohibitive favorite to win the AFC South. Win a few of those games, and the Titans will emerge as true contenders in the conference. The Titans will also have several tests at home, with the Cowboys, Raiders, Broncos and Bengals coming to play at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. This is not a good year to be playing all four teams in the AFC West. Biggest breaks: Perhaps the biggest break for the Titans is that they are still in the AFC South. The Colts are improved after upgrading to Matt Ryan at quarterback, but Tennessee should still enter the season feeling comfortable that it has four wins in its back pocket against the Jaguars and Texans — barring any upsets, which did happen last year. The NFC East is a favorable interdivisional matchup as the Commanders and Giants are easier opponents. Even the Cowboys don't feel as daunting as they did when they had Amari Cooper and Randy Gregory. Bottom line: The Titans' schedule looks much harder than the 2021 win-loss record might indicate. The Broncos, Raiders and Chargers have made drastic improvements in the offseason, the Eagles now have Brown, the Packers have Aaron Rodgers back, and the Bengals, Bills and Chiefs represent perhaps the three biggest roadblocks to the AFC crown. The Titans should win a few of those games, and there are plenty of games they should handle easily, particularly within the division. Record prediction: 10-7 |
