The undefeated fighter has earned a whopping $1.1 billion, one of only six athletes, to have achieved this feat. His biggest payday came in the last fight of his career against the UFC fighter, Conor McGregor, in 2017, when he earned $300 million, making it the biggest payday in the history of sports.

Furthermore, Mayweather earned almost a similar amount for his fight against the Philippines legend, Manny Pacquiao, in 2015. Mayweather earned $250 million as he defeated Pacquiao via decision.

What do you think about Floyd Mayweather’s $200 million exhibition announcement? Let us know in the comments below.

The exhibition phase of Floyd Mayweather's career is set to continue.

Floyd Mayweather will return to the ring this year following his dominant performance against Don Moore in Abu Dhabi. Now fully focused on partaking in exhibition contests against a range of opponents, Mayweather’s ring activities are set to continue in 2022 with no confirmation on who the former pound-for-pound superstar will face next.

This weekend, Mayweather was able to get past Moore, his former sparring partner, with relative ease. The Michigan fighter was in control from start to finish, and after increasing his output in the bout’s second half, Mayweather was able to drop Moore in the final session. After a successful showing against Moore, Mayweather has vowed to compete again.

"I will bring another fight back to the UAE this year, [The opponent] is a secret,” said Mayweather when speaking with Boxing Scene. “I don't want to let the cat out the bag right now, but we have an opponent, and I choose the UAE.

"It's been a little rollercoaster ride for all of the fighters. I want to commend the fighters on just being patient. These types of things happen in life. We go through ups. We go through downs, but we stand strong, stand together, and we made it happen.

"I just want to say thank you to everyone that's here. I want to say thank you to everyone in the whole UAE for having patience and all of the fighters up here who are unbelievable and the sponsors."

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has another exhibition upcoming.

The former boxer will face MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in Japan this September, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), his second exhibition in the country since his retirement from professional boxing five years ago.

Mayweather faced Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in the country back in 2018, an event that he showed up two hours late to before promptly knocking Nasukawa to the mat three times in a two-minute span, leaving him in tears after his corner called the fight.

"It was all about entertainment. We had fun," Mayweather said after the bout, ever the salesman. "Tokyo, Japan, you guys have been amazing. Thank you."

It probably helped the sales pitch that Mayweather reportedly made $9 million from the exhibition.

While Mayweather enjoyed himself, many of the people who tuned in for that fight saw through the spectacle:

That.. looked like a 50-0 boxer against a 20 year old kickboxer in a boxing match. That's exactly what it looked like.

Mayweather's exhibition against Mikuru likely won't be much different. While Mayweather was a perfect 50-0 in his boxing career, Mikuru is 16-3-1 in his MMA career and currently fights in the Rizin promotion.

Holding the fight under boxing rules gives Mayweather an obvious advantage, as it did when he faced Conor McGregor and Tenshin.

One difference is that Mikuru will be at much less of a size and weight disadvantage, as he fights around 145-150 pounds, whereas Tenshin is closer to 125 pounds. By the end of his career, Mayweather was fighting in the welterweight division (140-147 pounds).

Following his easy May win over Don Moore in Abu Dhabi, Floyd Mayweather’s next fight has been booked for September, and the boxing legend will compete a second time in Japan for the MMA promotion Rizin. But who will his opponent be in his latest exhibition bout?

Who will Floyd Mayweather’s next fight be against

Mayweather, Jr. will fight for the first time in almost four years back in Japan this September. Of course, he won’t be competing in MMA, which Rizin is most known for, but instead will scrap in another exhibition bout against organization veteran Mikuru Asakura. The cage fighting veteran is 10-2 in the promotion and 16-3 overall.

How to watch Mayweather vs Asakura in September

  • Mayweather vs Asakura will take place at a Rizin event in September
  • This card will take place in Japan, however, a city and venue have not been determined
  • The event will air on the brand new Rizin Fight Pass streaming service

Floyd Mayweather vs Mikuru Asakura preview

When Mayweather first competed for Rizin in 2018, he faced a solid test in rising kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa. However, while his new foe Asakura has knockouts in half of his 16 wins, he isn’t quite the striking threat as the boxing great’s previous opponent in the land of the rising sun.

With that said, the 29-year-old has nothing to lose and can be as risky as possible in trying to stun the world and hand “Money” a knockout.

  • Technician vs Brawler: Even at 45-years-old, Mayweather, Jr. is a far better striker than Asakura will be even if he had 10 more MMA or boxing bouts. However, as mentioned above, he has little to lose and is young. Nothing is stopping him from risking it all with a featherweight fury to land something Mayweather, Jr didn’t see coming. So there is certainly risk in the fight for the former champion, just not a high level of risk.
  • Will age finally be a factor: Sooner or later age will have an effect on Mayweather’s athleticism. Speed and reflexes are often the first to go. However, Mayweather, Jr. is not a man willing to risk embarrassment at this juncture in his combat career. He will take the fights he knows he can win and bet against a Rich Strike at the Kentucky Derby-level surprise on fight night.

Bottom line: This is another showcase for the pugilistic icon to show off the talent he still has despite being very long in his athletic tooth. The booking is also a chance to bring a boatload of attention to Rizin Fight Pass, which will need all the help it can. In the end, it is another chance to watch an all-time great complete one final time for a price that might be more affordable than most combat offerings today.

There is no doubt Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers to ever compete in the sport. Yet what makes him a one of a kind was that his mix of skill and brash bravado was able to transcend the industry. He is the type of talent that combat sports fans have long been willing to pay big money to see win, or hopefully lose.

The greatest villain in combat sports: Although Mayweather was a hero to some, relishing his role as a villain to all was what truly made him a box office megastar. And his ability to back up all his talk only heightened his appeal.

  • Mayweather racked up a 50-0 record and titles in multiple divisions during his run in the sport. Loudly trash-talking his way through wins over legends like Oscar De La Hoya, Pacquiao, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and Miguel Cotto.
  • In June 2022, Mayweather, Jr. was placed along with the immortals of the sport when he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall-of-Fame.
  • Floyd Mayweather record: 50-0 (27 knockouts)

The bad side of the legacy: Mayweather has also spent a good bit of time in courtrooms during his life.

Floyd Mayweather’s net worth

Money is often one of the greatest measuring sticks for a fighter’s success. As of 2022, Mayweather’s net worth is reported at $450 million. However, the boxing star claims it is closer to $1.2 billion.
