Why didnt jerry seinfeld hug kesha

(CNN) It's all good between Jerry Seinfeld and Kesha, you guys.

The comic talked to "Extra's" AJ Calloway Thursday about his awkward exchange with the singer in which he denied her a hug. A video of the encounter made headlines and went viral earlier this week.

Seinfeld said it wasn't personal, he simply doesn't hug strangers.

"When you get to be my age and you've done a couple things, you have your own reality, in my reality," Seinfeld said. "I don't hug a total stranger. I have to meet someone, say hello. I gotta start somewhere."

The pair ran into each on the same red carpet on Monday when Kesha approached Seinfeld, expressed her fandom and asked for a hug.

The star denied her three times and even stepped away from her when she tried to touch him.

Seinfeld told Extra he was thrown off a bit as he was in the middle of an interview when Kesha approached him.

"I'm 63, I don't know every pop star," he said. "I don't know everyone."

"Hug is not first moment of a human, two humans," he added. "I never did that."

He said he talked to the singer later at the event and they laughed about the whole thing.

For the record, Seinfeld said Kesha still never got her hug.

Remember that time comedian Jerry Seinfeld publicly rejected a hug from the Tik Tok singer? Well, you may or may not have forgotten, but Kesha surely remembers. The musician took to social media to show off her sense of humor regarding the uncomfortable (but hilarious) situation.

The 2017 clip went viral following the Red Carpet encounter between the two Hollywood faces. Some Australian fans were so inspired by the interaction that they turned it into a mural in Melbourne! While we're not sure if the iconic piece of art is still up, Seinfeld, fortunately, visited the wall painting and captured a shot to keep it in our memories forever.

And while the incident happened in 2017, Kesha recently relived the moment in a TikTok video. The pop star showed the viral clip and played her song Praying in the back. "But some things only God can forgive," as said in the lyrics she included in the video.

While it's the first time the singer's taken a humorous approach to what happened, she previously discussed the incident with SiriusXM's Hits 1 in Hollywood. "I shoulda known better," Kesha admitted at the time. "I've seen the [Seinfeld] hugging episode, that was my fault." The Shadow performer explained that the exchange made her think, "'Wow, maybe I should stop trying to hug everyone and like attacking them'... [Then] I was like, 'F*** that! No! I like hugging, hugging is magical, hugging is beautiful.'"

Kesha might think hugging is "magical," but the iconic comedian defended his rejection of the attempted hug, explaining that he had no idea who the singer was. "I'm 63, I don't know every pop star," Seinfeld told Extra back in 2017. "I don't know everyone." Jerry added that physical touch - especially with a "total stranger" - is not his thing. "When you get to be my age and you've done a couple things, you have your own reality," the comedy genius explained. "In my reality... I don't hug a total stranger. I have to meet someone, say hello. I gotta start somewhere."

"I got a borderline harassment case here!" the Seinfeld co-creator joked, before clarifying there were no hard feelings between the two celebrities. "She was very nice about it, we laughed about it." Jerry also referenced the incident when appearing on Zack Galifianakis' Between Two Ferns, where Cardi B rejected a hug from the comedic icon. "That was the opposite of what happened with Kesha," he hilariously said. We're living for this TikTok throwback!

Jerry Seinfeld tried to smooth over an international incident yesterday when he explained why he didn’t hug Kesha. In the clip that quickly went viral on Wednesday, the comedian is shown being approached by the pop star on a red carpet while giving an interview. She asks him for a hug, and he refuses. Several times. It was awkward.

Seinfeld tried to put an end to the speculation of why he deemed Kesha so un-hug-worthy by explaining to Extra that he simply does not hug strangers. “I’m 63. I don’t know every pop star, I don’t know everyone,” he told the show. Seinfeld also said that he found Kesha’s request to be a “little off,” and added that, “When you get to be my age, and you’ve done a couple things, you have your own reality. In my reality, I don’t hug a total stranger. I have to meet someone, say hello. I have to start somewhere.”

Nothing is more Seinfeldian than debating when it is and isn’t okay to hug someone. In fact, in an episode of Seinfeld called “The Kiss Hello,” Jerry becomes ostracized in his apartment building after he refuses to greet residents with a kiss. But lest you think Seinfeld is attempting to smooth things over, we’re pretty sure his most recent post on Instagram is a direct troll of Kesha. It’s very childish and thus very Seinfeld.

Jerry Seinfeld rejects Kesha's hug

Kesha has addressed a recent viral clip that saw Jerry Seinfeld dodging her attempt to hug him.

The two stars both attended a charity event held last month by the David Lynch Foundation. While the Seinfeld star was being interviewed on the red carpet, singer Kesha interrupted the comedian to tell him that she “loves” him “so much”. She then asked if she could hug him. After Seinfeld said “no thanks” and physically dodged Kesha’s attempt to hug him, he then said to the interviewer: “I don’t know who that was”. Upon being told it was Kesha, Seinfeld replied: “Okay, well I wish her the best.”

After the clip went viral online, leading Kesha fans to declare that Seinfeld is “over”, the actor then explained why he chose not to hug Kesha, revealing that he didn’t know who Kesha was.

Now Kesha has discussed the incident, speaking to SiriusXM’s Hits 1 in Hollywood. “I shoulda known better,” Kesha admitted. “I’ve seen the [Seinfeld] hugging episode, that was my fault.” She also said that the incident made her think “‘Wow, maybe I should stop trying to hug everyone and like attacking them'”, before changing her mind: “I was like, ‘Fuck that! No! I like hugging, hugging is magical, hugging is beautiful.'”

Kesha also revealed that she recently met – and successfully hugged – Bob Dylan. “He just opened his beautiful arms and gave me the most wonderful, healing, Bob Dylan hug that I have ever dreamt of,” she recalled, “and I just could care less about anything else.”

This week has seen Kesha release her first single since 2013 in the form of ‘Praying’.

In an open letter about the track, Kesha wrote: “I’ve overcome obstacles, and I have found strength in myself even when it felt out of reach. I’ve found what I had thought was an unobtainable place of peace.”

“This song is about coming to feel empathy for someone else even if they hurt you or scare you. It’s a song about learning to be proud of the person you are even during low moments when you feel alone. It’s also about hoping everyone, even someone who hurt you, can heal.”
