How to get rid of fake tan smell Reddit

[Request] How can I get rid of that fake tan smell?(self)

So I tried Loving Tan’s new platinum formula, and let me tell you- it looks AMAZING for like 4-5 days. However, I am now so so so splotchy as it’s wearing off. I’ve tried every tanner under the sun and never had an issue where I couldn’t scrub it off with a mit, sugar scrub, or just soap and a washcloth with some elbow grease. BUT I CANNOT GET THE REMNANTS OF THIS OFF! I look like I have freckles all over my body and a horrific weird skin disease!

Does anyone have any tricks? Particularly for really dark tanner or the Loving Tan brand? I absolutely love the product but I need a clean slate so I can apply a fresh layer!

Thanks in advance xo

I wear sunscreen daily and I am very fair skinned, so much so that people think I'm wearing white tights when I don't have my legs covered, and I want to use a self-tanner.

The problem is I can't stand the smell they all have. It makes me feel sick after a few hours. I understand its the chemical they use but has anyone found one where the smell is minimal at least? Or by some miracle, doesn't have the awful smell?

I have tried:

St. Tropez

Loreal Sublime Bronze

Jergens Natural Glow

Tan Towel

Sun Tan Overnight

I'm a single mom of a 5 month old so it's hard for me to make it to the tanning bed. I have been using Jergens Fair to Medium Self Tanner, and am very pleased with the results.

I don't look orange or streaked, I feel more confident in myself and my body image, PLUS it's cheap, and covers my blemishes making my skin look so much smoother.

However, I notice I have this chemically musky smell, it's only at my armpits. Is this from the Tanning Lotion?

Is it being obsorbed into my skin and the smell being released through my armpits?

I never suffer from BO, I shower everyday, and have used the same deoderant for years. When I stopped using the lotion for a few days, the smell went away.

Tips on how do deal with this?

Recommendations on other cheap self tanning lotions that do not cause this same issue?

Thanks! :-)

Just replied to another post that I still haven't found anything I love. Self tanners so easily go wrong, sticky slow drying, smelly, drying to the skin, too orange or barley visable, streaky, staining to sheets and clothing, fading too fast , too patchy or all of the above.

I used to think the smell was a deal breaker but this can easily be rectified with dove soap in the shower on every single bit of tanned skin. But still the smell can be disgusting as its developing and the dove soap trick only works to get rid of it like 90%.

I think the drying issue can be fixed too but not sure how, I suppose just lotioning better and maybe even working in an oil into the routine?

for me the darkest brownest tan is isle of paradise mouse but OMG the packaging makes it literally unusable after one use so I won't repurchase and the colour guard is messy. Their tanning water is the ONLY tanner that hasn't gotten on my sheets in a major way ( still a little) and is pretty dark but it does lean more orange and since it is clear have to be very very careful upon applying. Bondi sands is the third darkest and such a nice brown colour, its probably the least smelly and least streaky and most certainly fades the nicest but it is white sheet suicide: land masses of violet orange colour even after 3 showers and for that reason I won't repurchase.

at this point I'm thinking of going back to beds once a week and suggestions for more tanners to try that are white sheet friendly would be great!

I love to get a spray tan about once a week but hate the smell that comes with it while the tan is developing. Has anyone had success ridding themselves of this smell?

It goes away once I shower the next day, but that day and night the odor is pretty strong. I’ve tried the fragrances that can be added with the tan, but they don’t seem to neutralize the smell and only add another layer of scent on top of it.

Any tips or tricks on how to fix this would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It seems every time I use a fake tanning lotion or spray it leaves an unpleasant smell all over my body and whatever clothes I'm wearing. Sometimes it's was off so showering the smell away isn't an option. Does anyone know of a fake tanning product that has little to no aftersmell or maybe another scented product that can mask it?

So I’ve seen a couple of posts about this but figured I’d throw another one out there. I’ve been fake tanning for years and have been loyal to St Moritz mousse but have tried Fake Bake, Loving Tan, and St Tropez. St.Moritz is great color on me and lasts forever. I’ve never had a problem with my body smelling for the duration of the week it lasts, the only thing that seems to happen is the next day my armpits give off that terrible fake tan smell. I have to atleast put a light layer on my armpits because I can’t just have stark white pits when the surrounding skin is five shades darker lol and it always goes away by day three. The smell is better if I only leave it on for about 4 hours opposed to leaving it on overnight. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a fake tan that they have found has no smell at all? Willing to try gradual or other forms besides mousse. Thanks!!
