Violent crimes include: murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assaults. Violent crime rate is calculated by dividing the total numbers of violent crime by the total population; the result is multiplied by 100,000. The New York state average for violent crime is 361 per 100,000 people and its state average for property crime is 1410.7 per 100,000 people. The most dangerous city in New York is Newburgh. In 2019, Newburgh had a violent crime rate of 1,129.32 per 100,000 people and a property crime rate of 8,019.19 per 100,000 people. Newburgh’s violent crime rate is 3x greater than the state average. It’s property crime rate is 16% greater than the state average. You have a 1 in 89 chance of becoming a victim of violent crime and 1 in 44 chance of becoming a victim of property crime. (map)
