Government regulations on new signage requirements come into effect 22 July, 2021.

These licensed venue liquor signs are:

  • A4 single-sided print
  • Self-adhesive film (indoor life 2 years - outdoor life 6-12 months)
  • Available in 11 different design options specifically for different venues/purposes

All businesses licensed to sell liquor or manage gaming and gaming machines are required to display mandatory signage.

Depending on your venue and licensing restrictions, the new signage must be displayed prominently in:

All mandatory liquor signage was updated on 29 June 2018. Please replace your existing posters with those shown below.

To ensure you have the most up-to-date signage check the keycode (located in the bottom left-hand corner of the sign) against the keycode listed on the website (see drop down licence categories below). This information is also available in the Liquor licensing fact sheet - required signage for licensed premises (PDF, 1.52 MB).

Printing guidelines apply (see below). Signage needs to be printed in colour.

We no longer automatically mail signage to licensees and permittees.

Mandatory signage required for licensed premises

Under the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 (the Act), licensees are required to display certain signage (also referred to as posters or notices) around their licensed premises.

Mandatory signage is grouped in packs by licence category. Download your signage by clicking on the name of your licence category below:

Printing requirements

  • Signs must be printed in the original form as downloaded from our website. No modification to the form or content of the posters is permitted.
  • Signs must be printed in colour on A4 (210 x 297mm) paper.
  • Signs must be printed at a sufficient quality to ensure that the key number at the bottom left is clearly legible by our inspectors.
  • Signs must be displayed so that the information contained in them is clearly visible to the public.

Optional signage for licensed premises

The following signage is optional for liquor licensees. Download your signage by clicking on the images below or if you wish to download all signs you can via the Optional signage pack

We will also mail out copies of this poster upon request.

The following signs have been updated to reflect the doubling of fines applicable for various offences relating to the supply of liquor to minors:

  • "Under 18? No Supply"
  • "Under 18? Can you enter?"
  • "Do not attempt to buy liquor for under 18s"
  • "Under 18? No supply (Party Bus)"
  • "Unruly behaviour" (Party Bus).

How do I know if I have the correct version of a sign?

Check the keycode (located in the bottom left hand corner of the poster) against the keycode on the VGCCC website to ensure you are using the current version.

What is the penalty for not displaying the correct liquor signage?

Licensees must display any notice (signage or posters) that the Commission requires to be displayed on the licensed premises.

A list of signage currently required to be displayed on licensed premises can be found above. Licensees are encouraged to regularly check the website to ensure that they are displaying the most up-to-date signage and meeting their regulatory requirements.

The maximum penalty for non-display of signs exceeds $738 under section 102 of the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998.

Signs are useful for notifying staff and patrons of their legal requirements and the fines for breaking liquor laws.

We encourage you to use the signage provided to tell your patrons what you expect of them while at your licensed premises. You can also clearly convey to patrons and staff that you support your staff in refusing service; and your staff can point out these signs when enforcing responsible service of alcohol laws.
