This week on “The Crew Has It” Podcast with Michael Rainey Jr. and Gianni Paolo. In the promotional clip for Tuesday episode Paolo and Rainey Jr asked the creator of the Power Universe if Ghost is really dead.

She replied, “I’ll answer this way, he’s dead, period, and there is more story to tell. So, that’s the issue is like will that story ever be told I don’t know, but he is dead, and there’s more story to tell,” says Kemp.

“But, here’s the other thing there was no Ghost R.I.P. like asset right there was no I mean literally okay so so you guys at home the rip assets that they used to do after people died. That was like a Starz promotional thing, we don’t have anything to do with that that’s something that’s separate like we repost them so you think [he’s alive], [but] they just didn’t make one. I have been dealing with this question for a hundred years because these fools just [because] they didn’t make the asset. And they were like well there was no funeral and I’m like well were going to show the funeral in Ghost. [Not in the original Power] So we did do the funeral.”

She added, “We didn’t show a body for everyone we didn’t show Lela Loren [Angela Valdes] we did a lot of closed caskets.”

Make sure checkout Raising Kanan dropping August 14 and also check out her new projects over at Netflix when they drop because she revealed on the podcast that can’t say actually what’s she doing, but she did say she developing content with a lot of female leads.

There were a number of major events that transpired over the course of Power Book II: Ghost episode 2, but one of the biggest ones revolved around James St. Patrick’s funeral. Finally, we’ve gotten to that point!

We know that for a lot of people out there, this funeral was something that they were very-much interested in seeing. It was also the toughest position that Tariq’s been in throughout this whole process. He was presented with a dilemma — either bury his father entirely for the sake of helping his mother’s case, or laud him as a great man to preserve his business interests moving forward. If he took a side, he would cause the other one to completely disintegrate.

So what did Tariq decide? He mostly went down the middle. He didn’t do anything to hurt the business empire, but very little to help his mother. He did ultimately what he wanted to do, and that was probably an attempt for him to get a little bit more control over what was going on in his own life. That’s a strong indicator of who Tariq wants to be — his own person. He wants to find a way to get into Monet’s empire without putting himself in the danger Ghost did.

In the end, he made it clear in episode 2 that he’s not like his father. Is that the case? We’ll have to wait and see, but at least this character comes across as far more compelling than he did in Book I, and that is making things more interesting moving forward.

POWER concluded last night on Netflix following months of speculation about who shot James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick.

If you’re avoiding spoilers, turn back now, as we’re about to delve into the events of the finale.

Viewers were left reeling to learn that it was in fact Ghost’s (Omari Hardwick) son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr) who gunned him down in his nightclub.

However, it was Tasha (Naturi Naughton) who was wrongly detained for the crime, meaning Tariq literally got away with murder.

While this was a bombshell in and of itself, one of the most controversial aspects of the episode was the fact that Ghost never got an on-screen funeral.

Many fans felt robbed of a sense of closure and claimed it was disrespectful considering Ghost’s prominence in the show.

However, others were more hopeful, claiming that until they’ve seen a corpse, they refuse to believe the character is truly dead.

“Ghost dead for real? Power still ain’t made a RIP Ghost post on Instagram, so what happened to my man’s funeral on the show?” one Twitter user fumed.

A second chimed in: “I didn’t see a dead body or funeral so I still don’t believe he’s dead. Sorry! Bring him back!”

A third added: “Just watched the Power finale. Gosh it’s been emotional. They say they’re giving the fans what they want in a spin-off but all we want is Ghost back.”

While a fourth pondered: “Maybe no funeral ‘coz Ghost survived and comes back with a clean slate and everyone off his back?”

Power creator Coutney Kemp was quick to defend the conclusion, claiming that she’d always planned for Ghost to get his comeuppance one way or another.

She also stressed that his legacy would live on in the form of Tariq, who will feature prominently in Power Book II: Ghost.

“My goal was just to provide great entertainment, and I hope I have,” she told Deadline.

“You know, I think there are people who are disappointed that Ghost is dead, but I promised that from the beginning.”

She continued: “I said he would be dead or in jail. I don’t think I lied, you know?

And then the other thing is, is he really? Because his legacy lives on in his son and in his youngest daughter doesn’t it.

“We may yet see that those things and there are stories to be told there, as well.”

Earlier this week it was announced that Power would continue with a string of three spin-off series featuring familiar characters.

All episodes of Power are available to stream on Netflix now.

Ghost discovers which of his many enemies shot him in Power series finale

Power Book II finally laid Ghost/James St. Patrick to rest in episode 2 with a funeral that brought out his friends, family, and enemies. Different branches of law enforcement were on hand for security or surveillance reasons, and viewers also got to see a few old faces from the original Power.

Though Tate the slickster, Ott the fixer, and Saxe the trickster were all on the scene, fans noticed one person was visibly absent from the service: Ramona Garrity. What’s up with that?

The last time we saw Ramona Garrity on ‘Power’…

Let’s scoot back in time for a moment to revisit Power’s first chapter. Season 6 introduced Ramona as the smart, ambitious campaign manager for James’ run as lieutenant governor. From the gate, she was flirty and had high expectations for him despite initially working with Tate.

In later episodes, Ramona became James’ love interest and helped him spin his image into media and DNC gold. She was one of the last people to see him alive on the night he was murdered, and everything came crashing down in the moments after his death.

Remember, Ramona dissed Tate in favor of James but she came crawling back. “You should’ve never bet against me, boo,” Tate told her.

In episode 14, Tate told reporters Ramona was the one who brought St. Patrick into his campaign and that she had an ‘adulterous affair’ with James. She confronted Tate at his place about the lie, slapped him, and stormed off.

‘Power’ showrunner/creator Courtney Kemp explains Ramona’s absence

So, why wasn’t Ramona at the funeral? The question’s been floating around the web and Kemp caught wind of it. She did a short Q&A with fans on Instagram Live and spoke on the former DNC power woman’s whereabouts.

“If you guys go back to [episode] 614, Rashad Tate makes sure that she’s humiliated publicly at the end. And even though for all of us it’s been a long time, in the actual storytelling, Ghost hasn’t been dead that long,” said Kemp. “Ramona has been publicly humiliated so she can’t go anywhere in public.”

Disgraced and angry, Ramona could very well be sitting somewhere plotting her revenge against Tate. If you replay that episode, you’ll note they argued about the fact that she never slept with James.

One way Ramona can come back

Kemp wouldn’t divulge whether the character will pop up for Power Book 2, but that doesn’t mean it’s the last we’ll see of Ramona. Tate has his own spinoff coming in the Power universe after Tommy’s takes off. Titled Power Book V: Influence, it will likely follow Tate’s career from his beginnings in Queens to his latest gubernatorial campaign.

Ramona may show up as an aide to a new politician or to uncover Tate’s shady past and present. We all know how he gets down when he’s not wearing that suit.

As his brother pointed out, he is very lucky, but Ramona could ensure that his luck finally runs out. At the end of season 6, Tate made quite a few enemies and there are several people she could tag into her scheme.
