It is also worth noting that, as seen in Star Wars: Rebels, Obi-Wan Kenobi appeared in the hologram transmission warning all surviving Jedi to stay hidden and not return to the Temple. Having been left on their own after the instructor was killed, Reva and her fellow younglings may have been trapped at the Temple, hoping for help that never arrived. If she turned out to be captured, tortured, and brainwashed into becoming an Inquisitor, Reva could see Obi-Wan as the reason for her suffering, hence developing into a personal vendetta against him.

The backstory of Reva's character is currently a mystery, but as the series continues to unfold we would most likely get a canonical explanation for her obsession with capturing the Jedi master. With three more episodes to go, the Inquisitors' pursuit could perhaps culminate into a standoff between Reva and Obi-Wan, shedding more light on the intriguing question at hand.

With the release of the six-part Disney Plus Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the main antagonist known as the Third Sister has acted as a reminder of Darth Vader's brutal treatment and conditioning of the Imperial Inquisitors as shown within the Star Wars comic series' published by Marvel Comics. The Third Sister has already clearly defined her ambitions within the series, desperate to find and capture the former Jedi Council member Obi-Wan Kenobi. She tracked him from Tatooine all the way to the planet of Daiyu. It is clear that Obi-Wan Kenobi represents something of a 'white whale' to Third Sister's 'Captain Ahab', but what is the origin of Third Sister's obsession over the fabled Jedi Master?

The answer may come in great part because of the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader, and the impact his grueling training has left on the Imperial Inquisitors depicted throughout the 2017 Star Wars: Darth Vader Dark Lord of the Sith comic series. The comic series was meant to aid in filling in the blank spots within the Star Wars mythos with Darth Vader's transformation after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, into a foreboding Sith Lord. The comic series also acted as an origin for the Imperial Inquisitors within the events of the Star Wars galaxy, explaining how they were selected and how they were trained into becoming Jedi Hunters.

In Darth Vader Dark Lord of the Sith #6 (by Charles Soule, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cam Smith, and David Curiel) after attempting to locate an alleged intruder in the Jedi Temple, Darth Vader would be introduced to the Grand Inquisitor and the Inquisitorius. Emperor Palpatine would task Darth Vader in training shortly after. Within the following issue, Darth Vader subjected the inquisitors to horrific torture, cleaving limbs and psychologically exploiting them so that they may understand the importance of loss. The intent was the break the inquisitors and make them completely subservient to the will of the Sith Lords, insuring that their only desires would be to please their master.

Darth Vader would also make it clear throughout the comic series that any attempt to defy the will of the Sith or holding any aspirations beyond that of the Galactic Empire would result in death. As was displayed in full in Darth Vader Dark Lord of the Sith #20 (by Charles Soule, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Daniele Orlandini, Erick Arciniega, and Dono Sánchez-Almara) after two Inquisitors were revealed to be romantically involved. Darth Vader chased them across the planet of Coruscant before horrifically slaughtering them.

This training and conditioning, although brutal, was effective in allowing the likes of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine to dominate the will of their force-sensitive servants. As was displayed by the Ninth Sister in the hit video game Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, who made it clear that Darth Vader's training and conditioning had left a severe mark on her psyche. She declared to the games' protagonist Cal Kestis that like her, he would break once he experiences "the isolation, torture [and] mutilation" Vader bequeathed the Inquisitors.

With the gruesome torture the Imperial Inquisitors experienced from Darth Vader, it would not become surprising that his obsessions became the obsessions of the Inquisitors. They were forced to make every effort to please their Sith Master so that they were not punished. When the Grand Inquisitor confronted the Third Sister regarding her overzealous actions within the first episode of the series, he gave his subordinate the moniker "the lesser of [the Inquisitors]". This indicated that she had much to prove to both the Grand Inquisitor and Darth Vader.

Obi-Wan Kenobi's status as the only Jedi to have defeated Darth Vader would give him a legendary reputation among the Inquisitors. This would present an opportunity for the undervalued Third Sister to prove herself as worthy to her master, or perhaps prove her superiority over Darth Vader. As although she is not a true Sith Lord, the Third Sister would understand that the Sith will always replace one another for a greater warrior. If she proved to be greater than Darth Vader, she could be made Emperor Palpatine's right-hand lady.

However, the Third Sister's obsessions may be more personally directed to Obi-Wan Kenobi himself rather than the Inquisitor projecting Darth Vader's own obsessions over his old mentor. Only time will tell how much of Darth Vader's violent and sadistic training of the Inquisitors has influenced Third Sister's obsession with capturing Obi-Wan. Hopefully, more of her motivations are revealed throughout the remaining four episodes of the series.

I've already seen some people complaining that the Grand Inquisitor mentions Jedi leaving a trail for them to follow. Since Obi Wan should be almost impossible to find.

But I don't think he's talking about Obi in the trailer. I think everything he is saying is about the rumored Jedi character Nari. It was also rumored that the 3rd Sister senses a bigger force presence than just Nari on tatooine. Causing the inquisitor to mock her since there would be no way for her feel that if he couldn't.

After they kill nari (rumor) on tatooine she's still going to feel it. It turns out that she is right. So she becomes obsessed with finding this source believing it to be Kenobi. And eventually, get's her wish. She actually tracks him down on Daiyo. Something that no one else could do. But then she is not prepared for someone as skilled as he. She's been tracking down former padawans and random Jedi that she outclasses.

When she comes across Kenobi he avoids using the force to try to stay under the radar. This only builds her confidence as she feels like she has him on the ropes. Eventually, out of necessity he gives in and starts using the force. It becomes immediately clear that she is overmatched. Similar to how Kenobi disposes Maul in rebels Obi cuts her up and she dies.

Seeing one of their most powerful Inquisitors clearly killed by a lightsaber combined with feeling her killer's force use, Vader comes to the conclusion that this Jedi must be a big deal. So he goes to Daiyo (sp?) and can immediately sense Kenobi. Leading to him personally hunting him, finding him, and having an epic duel on that planet.

Before Kenobi escapes and eventually heads back to tatooine. There he has a newfound purpose. He's no longer pitying himself. Seeing vader reminded him how important Luke is. So he cuts himself even further off from the force. Ensuring that he and Luke stay hidden this time.

Reva Sevander, better known as the Third Sister, is the central antagonist of the 2022 Disney+ live-action Star Wars miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi. She was a Jedi youngling who survived Order 66 and fell to the dark side of the Force, joining the Galactic Empire by becoming part of the Inquisitorius.

The Third Sister is later involved in trying to track down Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Order 66 survivor, whom she specifically targets out of a desire to gain Darth Vader's favor, all just to get closer to Vader and kill him for killing her youngling friends long ago.

She is portrayed by Moses Ingram in her first villainous role. As a child, she is portrayed by Ayaamii Sledge.

History

Past

Reva Sevander was identified as being Force sensitive as a child and brought to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. She was present when Darth Vader attacked the Jedi Temple in the opening stages of the Jedi purge, and witnessed the man she knew as Anakin Skywalker killing her friends and teachers. Surviving Vader's assault and swearing revenge, she later joined the Inquisitorius as the Third Sister. As an Inquisitor, she and her fellow Inquisitors hunted Jedi down on behalf of the Galactic Empire. According to The Grand Inquisitor, the Inquisitorius members found her in the "gutter", so it is possible that Reva came from a poor background.

At some point, the Third Sister became obsessed with hunting down the Clone Wars hero Obi-Wan Kenobi and bring him to Vader, the governor of the Inquisitorius. Somehow, the Third Sister learned that Obi-Wan Kenobi had a connection with Bail Organa, a Senator from Alderaan.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Nine years after the end of the Clone Wars, the Third Sister accompanies the Grand Inquisitor and the Fifth Brother to Mos Eisley in Tatooine, searching for a Jedi rumored to be stationed in the cantina. Growing tired of waiting until the Grand Inquisitor finishes interrogating the cantina's owner, the Third Sister throws a knife towards the man, leading the Jedi they were seeking, named Nari, to use the Force to save his benefactor and reveal himself.

The Sister and the Brother are ordered by the Grand Inquisitor to capture Nari for interrogation, but the Third Sister tries to kill Nari, forcing the Grand Inquisitor to intervene and enabling Nari to escape. The Inquisitor chastises the Sister for her recklessness, who in turn chastises him for looking after "scraps" instead of "bigger prey", but the Grand Inquisitor warns her to drop her fixation with Kenobi and start obeying his commands or otherwise he will relieve her of her duties, so the Third Sister begrudgingly relents.

The Third Sister and the Fifth Brother later return to Mos Eisley and ask some Tatooinians about Nari, but the Sister opts to interrogate the citizens about Obi-Wan Kenobi instead, promising to reward or punish them, cutting off a woman's hand after she warns that the Inquisitorius don't have any rights in the Outer Rim. Despite the Fifth Brother's anger, the Third Sister continues with her interrogation and asks Owen Lars, Luke Skywalker's adoptive uncle, if he knows about a Jedi. Owen refuses to sell either Obi-Wan or Luke out and insists that he considers the Jedi "vermin", but the Sister threatens to kill him and his family if no one gives her information about Obi-Wan.

However, the Fifth Brother intervenes and takes the Third Sister to an alley, where he chastises her for not letting go of her obsession with Obi-Wan. The following day, Nari is found dead in the streets of Mos Eisley, presumably murdered either by the Third Sister or her fellow Inquisitorius. Despite this, the Third Sister decides to take the matters in her own hands and hires the mercenary Vect Nokru and his team to kidnap Princess Leia Organa, the heir of House of Organa, and take her to Daiyu, so Bail would contact Obi-Wan and force him to come out of hiding to rescue Leia.

Shortly afterwards, in Daiyu, the Third Sister meets with the Grand Inquisitor, the Fifth Brother and the Fourth Sister. The Inquisitor angrily chastises her for capturing an Imperial senator's daughter without telling him first, but the Third Sister insists that her plan must work out and that the Inquisitorius have done worse. Fed up with the Third Sister's tendency to defy his orders, the Grand Inquisitor dismisses her from the case and tells her his intentions to capture and deliver Kenobi to Vader without giving her any credit, warning that she will be appropriately punished after Kenobi's capture. Undeterred, the Third Sister asks Nokru to put a bounty on Obi-Wan's head, who had just rescued Organa from Nokru's clutches. After seeing Kenobi fending off some bounty hunters, the Third Sister starts chasing after him and Organa through Daiyu's roofs.

Eventually, the Third Sister tracks Obi-Wan and Leia to a shipyard and Obi-Wan hides from her to ensure Leia can get onboard a ship that will take them off the planet. The Sister taunts Obi-Wan by asking him to surrender so he will not die "today". She then informs him about Anakin Skywalker's survival to further conflict him, but before she can find where Obi-Wan is hiding, the Grand Inquisitor appears and demands her to move aside so he can capture Kenobi himself. However, the Third Sister refuses to obey and stabs the Inquisitor instead so he can't take all the credit. However, the confrontation with her superior is enough to give Obi-Wan the chance to jump into the ship and depart Daiyu with Leia, much to the Third Sister's anger.

Trivia

• So far, the Third Sister is, alongside Second Sister, one of the only two Inquisitorius members to be human. They, alongside the Sixth Brother, Ninth Sister and Tenth Brother, are also the only Inquisitors whose real names have been revealed.
• The first episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi opens with a Jedi Master named Minas Velti protecting a group of Jedi younglings from clone troopers during the Great Jedi Purge at the cost of her own life. Since among the younglings there is a dark-skinned one, some have theorized that she must be a young Reva Sevander. Thus, if the youngling is indeed her, then it could be possible that she holds Obi-Wan Kenobi responsible for her master's death and wants to avenge her.
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold has stated that he has been asked about this possibility, but for the current moment, he has declined to confirm anything.
  • The fifth episode confirmed this to be true as Reva wants to avenge her friends' death by killing Darth Vader, while at the same time, hates Obi-Wan Kenobi for letting the tragedy happen.
• Moses Ingram hopes that her hairstyle as the Third Sister may inspire some children to wear their natural hair if they choose to dress up as the Third Sister for Halloween.
• Joby Harold feels that the Third Sister's role in the miniseries will contribute to the legacy of Star Wars villains in a really interesting way. In what exact way is currently unknown.
• Stuart Beattie's original script for Obi-Wan Kenobi before he was replaced with Joby Harold had Darth Vader killing the Third Sister, who didn't know that he was Anakin Skywalker.
• She is currently the only Inquisitor to survive a direct battle with Darth Vader.
