Aaron Rodgers threw for 341 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Green Bay Packers to a 45-30 win against the Chicago Bears on Sunday night at Lambeau Field. But the severity of his toe injury may have increased, he said after the game.

The two teams combined to score 45 points in a wild second quarter. The Bears led 27-21 at halftime, but the Packers outscored the Bears 17-0 in the third quarter and 24-3 in the second half. As The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain points out, Chicago has lost seven games by double digits, its most since 2014.

The 75 total points scored between the two teams is the second most in this rivalry that began in 1921.

Jakeem Grant returned a punt in the second quarter 97 yards for a touchdown in what proved to be the highlight of the night for the Bears. Grant also scored on a 46-yard touchdown pass.

Davante Adams finished with 10 receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns for the Packers. Adams and Rodgers started slowly in the first quarter with Adams not recording his second catch until the second quarter.

Justin Fields finished 18-for-33 for 224 yards passing and two touchdowns. He also ran for 74 yards on nine carries and threw two interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown.

The Packers improved to 10-3 and 6-0 at home while the Bears fell to 4-9 and 2-5 away from Soldier Field.

What we learned about the Packers on Sunday night

The Packers’ magic number is down to one. A win in Baltimore next Sunday — which is a tall order, of course — will clinch the NFC North, regardless of results elsewhere.

Green Bay improved its record to 10-3 on Sunday night in a 45-30 win over the Bears at Lambeau Field, achieving a season high in points, navigating a tumultuous first half in all three facets and overcoming a downright pathetic special teams performance.

Here are the most important things we learned from the Packers’ sixth consecutive win over the rival Bears.

Seemingly close, but in reality still far off

For 30 minutes, the Bears threw everything they had at the Packers.

In the end, it showed how far away they are from the rival and the quarterback who have dominated this series for more than a decade. At 4-9, the Bears are guaranteed their first losing season under coach Matt Nagy.

Greenberg: It was fun ... to a point

The Bears shocked the football-watching part of the country in the first half at Lambeau Field, flexing instead of getting flexed, before regressing to be the team Chicago knows and kinda hates in the second half, succumbing once again to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers with a 45-30 loss under the harsh lights of a prime-time game.

The Jakeem Grant Game turned into another Rodgers rout.

Four keys for the Bears tonight

1. Start fast. They haven’t scored an opening-drive TD since the Packers game in Week 6.

2. Keep Justin Fields upright. The Packers sacked him four times in October. The Bears have to protect their QB but also stay on schedule.

3. Win on third down. Limiting Aaron Rodgers on third down is more likely than getting a takeaway.

4. Get a game-changing play on special teams. They’ll need it.

Kevin Fishbain·

{{monthName}} {{day}}, {{year}} at {{hour12}}:{{minuteTwoDigit}} {{dayPeriod}}

The Packers can't clinch anything tonight, but a win is still big

Green Bay entered this week with the same (9-3) record as the Buccaneers but also an edge on them by virtue of having a better win percentage games vs. NFC opponents. And though it isn't a factor just yet, the Packers also have a head-to-head win against the team with the best record in the NFL, the 10-2 Cardinals.

Those are key factors as the Packers try to hold onto or improve their No. 2 seeding position for the NFC playoffs.

The Saints' win Sunday prevented Green Bay from being able to seal a playoff bid with a win tonight, and the Vikings' win Thursday prevented Green Bay from sealing the NFC North with a win tonight. But for the Packers to hold onto the position they've built, they do need to beat the Bears.

{{monthName}} {{day}}, {{year}} at {{hour12}}:{{minuteTwoDigit}} {{dayPeriod}}

Fishbain: What the Bears need to do tonight

The goal every week is to start fast, but it means more against the Packers and Aaron Rodgers. If the Bears go three-and-out, things could get ugly in a hurry. Quarterback Justin Fields did lead an 80-yard touchdown drive to open things for the Bears offense against Green Bay in Week 6, but they scored only one other touchdown all game. As bad as the offense has been in recent years at the starts of games, it had been much better early this season. The Bears marched into opposing territory on their opening drive in five of their first six games, scoring three touchdowns and a field goal. In the six games since, they’ve gotten there only twice, leading to only three points.

The Packers have given up touchdowns on the opening drive five times this season, but they haven't allowed one since Nov. 7. The Bears have to sustain long drives, using a heavy dose of running back David Montgomery and getting efficiency from Fields and the receivers and tight ends. Not to put too much weight on how the Bears start, but it’s pretty monumental for them to get some kind of early edge in a game in which they’re heavy underdogs.

Kevin Fishbain·

{{monthName}} {{day}}, {{year}} at {{hour12}}:{{minuteTwoDigit}} {{dayPeriod}}

Schneidman: What I'm expecting from the Packers tonight

The NFL's most storied rivalry installs its next chapter in prime time at Lambeau Field with the two teams heading in opposite directions. The Packers (9-3) can stretch their NFC North lead to four games with four remaining with a win against a Bears team (4-8) staring down wholesale staff changes without star edge rusher Khalil Mack and nose tackle Akiem Hicks.

Get ready for a heavy dose of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, who have established themselves as one of the NFL's most potent running back tandems. Both are averaging more than five yards per touch this season, and head coach Matt LaFleur recently referred to them as 1A and 1B rather than starter and backup.

"December football, that’s when it turns into smash-mouth football,” Jones said. “It shows who’s really more physical, who wants it more and is willing to get down and dirty.”

The most important thing to watch pregame will be if the Packers have star inside linebacker De'Vondre Campbell. He returned to practice Friday after his 10-day quarantine following a positive COVID-19 test and is listed as questionable to play.

Jahns: This game could reveal something about the Bears

Aaron Rodgers didn’t back away from his “I still own you comments” this past week. If anything, he doubled down on what he said during the Packers’ victory against the Bears on Oct. 17 at Soldier Field. It’s important to not get too carried away when considering the intangibles and motivations of the Bears. They’re 4-8 and some of their best players are injured. But you’d still think Rodgers’ comments — which were yelled at Bears fans — would provide extra motivation. This is a matchup that should tell you a lot about the Bears' locker room.

Jaire Alexander’s return to the Packers won't happen tonight, but it's coming

Who won the bears packers game

Cornerback Jaire Alexander participated in individual drills Wednesday for the first time since injuring his shoulder in Week 4. The Packers have built a sturdy cornerback rotation in his absence, but it's only going to get better in the coming weeks.

“It’s good for everybody’s mentals,” wide receiver Davante Adams said of Alexander’s return. “It’s good to see one of your key players back on the field, jersey back on, helmet on. I’m not sure exactly when or what his operation is right now, but it’s just good to see him out there bringing that vibrant attitude back to it. Because fresh out of an injury, it’s obviously a little tougher on your mind, but having some time to kind of (cope) with it and deal with it, I’ve slowly seen him rise back to the Ja that we all know and love. The milestones within reach for Aaron Rodgers tonight

Aaron Rodgers has led the Packers to nine 10-win seasons since he became the team's starting QB, the second-most for any team in that time period. And if the Packers win tonight, Rodgers will join Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning as the only QBs with 10 or more 10-win seasons. Brady has 19, Manning had 14 and Brees 10.

In addition, Rodgers has multiple touchdown passes in nine games, tied for the most in the league. He has 23 so far in 2021. With two touchdown passes against the Bears, Rodgers will have recorded 25 touchdown passes in 12 seasons, the fourth-most seasons in NFL history. Greenberg: It would be nice for the Bears to beat the Packers

Who won the bears packers game

If you’re surprised the Bears-Packers game wasn’t flexed out of the Sunday night time slot on account of the Bears being an unwatchable 4-8 shell of a team, you’re guilty of overestimating how much the national networks care that the Bears stink and discounting how much the networks love going to Lambeau Field for a rivalry game.

Sure, Chicago is the big market in this duo, but the Packers are a national team that has been perennially relevant since the 1990s.

You don’t flex out of Bears-Packers at Lambeau Field at night. Especially if there’s a chance of snow, which is equivalent to drugs for the TV folks who broadcast football games.

This game gets marquee exposure because of the history of the teams and the beauty of Bears-Packers at Lambeau. It’s not because anyone is expecting the Bears to actually win. (By comparison, since 2009, there have only been two regular-season night games in this series at Soldier Field.)

Is the Bears' cupboard bare beyond Justin Fields?

Who won the bears packers game

Sure, it’s good to have Justin Fields back as the starting quarterback, and having wide receiver Allen Robinson and defensive tackle Akiem Hicks return to the lineup would be significant, but none of it changes what’s going against the Bears.

They’ve lost five in a row and 22 of 26 against the Packers. They’ve lost five prime-time games in a row. They have been an underdog nine times this season and won only once in that role. Oh, and there’s that whole Aaron Rodgers factor. You know, the guy who owns the Bears.

I’m not sure if coach Matt Nagy has busted out the, “No one believes in us,” motivational tool this season. If he has, it hasn’t led to any wins. If he hasn’t, well, no one believes the Bears can pull off the upset on Sunday night.

But hey, that’s why they play the games, right?

Chicago Bears (4-8) at Green Bay Packers (9-3) | 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC

Bears rookie Justin Fields will be back in the starting lineup after missing two games with a rib injury. He had 43 rushing yards and a touchdown in the teams’ Week 6 matchup, a 24-14 Packers win. Running back David Montgomery had eight catches and a season-high 141 yards from scrimmage in Week 13’s loss to the Cardinals and has at least 50 scrimmage yards in his last 14 games. Darnell Mooney, who caught a touchdown in the Week 6 matchup, has at least five receptions in three straight games.

The Packers are coming off a bye and can clinch the NFC North with a win and Minnesota loss or tie, or a tie vs. the Bears and a Vikings loss. They could also secure a playoff berth via a few other scenarios. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers enters with the fourth-best passer rating in the NFL (105.5) and has a history of success against the Bears. He’s thrown 32 touchdown passes against four interceptions in his 13 career home games against Chicago. With those numbers, it’s not surprising he stood by his “I own you” comments to Bears fans in Week 6. Rodgers has also been particularly good on “Sunday Night Football,” posting a 129.7 passer rating in his past four Sunday Night Football starts.
